Description SunDragon IV is the most advanced solar powered vehicle built by Drexel students to date. It utilizes various technologically advanced components such as an advanced composite chassis, data acquisition system, and a powerful solar array. SD IV accomplished a 1st place pole position finish, with a top speed of 65 mph, at the Regional Qualifier of Sunrayce `93 that was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. SunDragon IV won the Cross Continental division of the 1994 American Tour de Sol race from New York City to Philadelphia.
SunDragon IV is a three-wheeled vehicle which utilizes an A-arm front suspension and a trailing arm in the rear. Nitrogen charged shock absorbers are used at all three wheel locations. And much like SunDragon III, SD IV utilizes a composite monocoque chassis combining carbon fiber, kevlar, structural glass, and Nomex. This specific combination of materials produces a light-weight chassis without compromising strength and durability.
