Description The Solar Vision car began to take shape in September 1993, with the goal of winning a third national championship. The car was a departure from the two previous designs, manufactured using cutting-edge composites technologies. With limited resources and time, Michigan completed Solar Vision just in time for Sunrayce 95. However, the lack of testing time led to manufacturing problems which caused great concerns for driver safety. The team was heartbroken, but knew they had to withdraw from the race to prevent serious injury. After months of hard reflection, the team realized that Solar Vision had not been a failure, because future teams could use it as a learning experience. The car had educated millions of people on alternative fuels, severd as a tested for new technology and materials, and taught team members about real-world challenges; more than most cars ever do.
