Steel inserts are often used/needed when working with aluminum suspesions. Here two types of inserts were tested. One type has a nylon patch to keep if locked with the threads and the other has locking pins that sink into the aluminum when inserted. A probable method of failure is due to torsional loading. The nylon patch one failed first. The other is still in the aluminum.

Here you see a suspension desing on CAD. This design was optimized to be machined from aluminum given the predicted loads and safety margins.
